Maps of Inequality: From Redlining to Urban Decay and the Black Exodus
The 2022 Scavenger Results table displays the number and percent of properties offered at the 2022 Sale in each Chicago ward and Cook County suburb. This table also shows the number of bids made on properties in each ward and suburb, the percentage of Scavenger Sale properties that have more property tax and penalty debt than market value and each locale's population change and average crime rate. You can download the data table here.
The 2007 – 2022 Scavenger Results table contains information on each time a property was offered at the Cook County Scavenger Sale from 2007 to 2022. This data includes the address and type of property, the results from each sale and whether a property that received a bid was later deeded (acquired by the bidder) or redeemed (taxes paid by the original homeowner). This dataset is large, and the visualization shows only an overview of the Scavenger Sale information for each property. You can download the full data table to view every case here.
