Exemption History Search
Taxpayers may search Cook County’s records online to confirm exemptions to which
they may be entitled. The search encompasses four tax years (2012-2015). Exemptions
for the current tax year, if granted, are reflected on the Second Installment tax
If you did not receive exemptions to which you were entitled, you may apply to the
Cook County Assessor’s office requesting a Certificate of Error application.
In the case where the granting of the exemption entitles the taxpayer to a refund, under Illinois law, there are varying statutes of limitation depending upon the type of refund. All refund applications must be submitted on or before the expiration of the specific statute of limitation, which begins on the date the right to the refund arose.
If your property is tax exempt, such as many churches and parks, it is not entitled
to any of the exemptions listed in the Exemption History provided.
