Treasurer Maria Pappas discusses her plan to help property owners affected by the coronavirus pandemic in an interview with Hermene Hartman of N'digo.

She also talks about modernizing the office, her background and why she got into politics.

"My trips through Europe and County courts made me see that if I was really going to serve people, it would have to be in public service as an elected official," said Pappas, who was elected to the Cook County Board in 1990 and Treasurer in 1998.

"You actually could get things done through government and politics if you studied. I studied."
