Officials in several collar counties are attempting to provide a modicum of relief by temporarily waiving late fees for those who delay paying taxes on residential or commercial properties, Crain's Chicago Business reports.

In a joint statement, Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle and Treasurer Maria Pappas said: "Many property owners will not be able to pay their second installment property taxes. Our offices are working closely to try to develop a plan to help to those taxpayers."
