Pappas urges lawmakers to extend deadline for late property tax payments

Flanked by local elected officials, clergy and honorary deputy treasurers, Treasurer Maria Pappas called on the Illinois General Assembly to allow financially strapped taxpayers four additional months to pay their delinquent property bills before the Annual Tax Sale, Chicago Crusader reports.

At a February 24, 2020, press conference, Pappas reminded state lawmakers that 57,515 property owners must pay $188.2 million before this year's Tax Sale, which begins May 8.
