Cliff Kelley is introduced as the “Governor of Talk Radio” at the start of his daily show on WVON/1690-AM. But whenever Treasurer Maria Pappas visits the program, she always greets him as “Mr. President.”
When Pappas heard that Kelley is loosening his tie after 25 years at WVON-AM, she figured he needed more appropriate attire. And a promotion.
So she got him a T-shirt that says: “I ain’t the governor. I’m the president.”
Kelley laughed when Pappas gave him the shirt in a surprise visit to his show. When asked if he will wear the shirt, Kelley said, “You’re darn right I am.”
The gift caught the attention of Sun-Times columnist Mike Sneed. Kelley’s last day is March 29, 2019.
