Almost two-thirds of the $106 million in unpaid Cook County real estate taxes are for suburban properties, the Daily Herald reports. Fifty-eight homes with senior citizen exemptions and unpaid tax bills are in the northwest suburbs.
“In many cases, we’re talking about seniors who wrote their checks the wrong way, forgot to pay or whatever and they become our most vulnerable,” Treasurer Maria Pappas said.
