In an interview with Forbes.com, Treasurer Maria Pappas described her initiative to reveal all spending and debt by Cook County's 2,200 local governments.  Pappas said people should use the information her office places on their tax bills and her office's website to monitor local-government  spending because the "the picture isn't pretty" for the future.  She warned that future generations may have to pay for today's governmental debt with rising property taxes that could claim their homes tomorrow.  To read the interview, please click here.
