Received Incorrect Information Because of Computer Glitch
Lists of Cook County property owners who owe taxes were published correctly in the Chicago Tribune and the Chicago Sun-Times, but will be republished in smaller community papers that received incorrect information because of a computer glitch, Cook County Treasurer Maria Pappas said today.
Pappas said correct delinquency information was sent by certified mail to all of the 37,500 property owners who owed $102.5 million from tax year 2005 (due in 2006), and correct information is available on her office’s website at www.cookcountytreasurer.com and automated phone system at 312.443.5100. Pappas advised taxpayers to have their 14-digit Property Index Number when accessing such data.
Lists of delinquencies are published in newspapers to give property owners notice that they owe taxes which may be sold at the Annual Tax Sale beginning June 5.
