Full or Partial Payments for Two Years on www.cookcountytreasurer.com
Cook County property owners who miss paying current property tax bills by the due date of Thursday, March 1, 2007, can pay afterward on the website of Cook County Treasurer Maria Pappas or at a Chase Bank with a 1.5 percent monthly penalty.
Pappas said today that full or partial payment can be made for the first installment of tax year 2006, due by the close of business March 1, and for delinquent bills issued in 2006.
Pappas said the online option at www.cookcountytreasurer.com makes it easier for taxpayers to pay late. The 1.5 percent monthly penalty will be reflected in the amount showing as owed.
"If a late payment is necessary, it's easy to know what you owe and easy to pay because of our website," Pappas said.
Payment also can be made:
- At nearly 300 Chase Bank locations, some in Dominick's Food Stores.
- By direct debit at 214 participating community banks which pay via Pappas' website.
To check what is owed, taxpayers should have their Property Index Number and visit www.cookcountytreasurer.com or call 312.443.5100.
Cook County has nearly 1.7 million parcels of property on which more than $9 billion is collected in two installments yearly. The revenue goes to local taxing agencies.
