Property Tax Bills to be Mailed This Week

First-installment property tax bills due March 1, 2007, will be mailed this week to Cook County property owners, Cook County Treasurer Maria Pappas announced today.

The bills are for the first installment of tax year 2006, and go to owners of nearly 1.7 million homes, businesses and land parcels across Cook County.

Payments received after March 1, 2007, will be penalized 1.5 percent per month.

Pappas said payments for the current and past tax years are accepted year-round:

• On www.cookcountytreasurer.com
• At nearly 300 Chase Bank locations, some in Dominick's Food Stores..
• By direct debit at 214 participating community banks (visit www.cookcountytreasurer.com for a list).
