Pappas: 109,205 Owe $178.9 Million in Late Payments for This Year
About $178.9 million is owed by 109,205 property owners who did not pay property taxes on time earlier this year, Cook County Treasurer Maria Pappas said today.
Pappas said delinquency notices have been mailed to the owners of homes, businesses and land who did not make on-time payment for the first installment of property taxes for tax year 2005, which was due on March 1, 2006.
Late payments can be made:
- By mail (no cash) in the return envelope that comes with the bill.
- At any of 285 Chase Bank facilities.
- On-line at www.cookcountytreasurer.com from a checking or savings account.
- By direct debit at more than 200 selected community banks.
Pappas urged the property owners to pay immediately to avoid further penalty increases of 1.5 percent per month for late payments.
