  • Dos o más compañías hipotecarias, bancos o compañías de títulos pagaron los mismos impuestos durante la compra o refinanciamiento de una propiedad.

Usted puede tener derecho a un reembolso incluso si compró o vendió su propiedad hace muchos años. La ley permite reembolsos por pagos duplicados realizados hasta hace dos décadas. Así que, aunque ya se haya mudado, sigue teniendo derecho a ese dinero si pagó de más.

Ella McWilliams se enteró de que recibiría un reembolso después de descubrir que en 2004 se había producido un pago en exceso considerable, cuando tanto la compañía de títulos como la compañía hipotecaria realizaron pagos. Además, McWilliams hizo pagos en exceso menores en 2007, 2008 y 2009. Aunque eran montos pequeños, se acumularon. En total, se le debían $1,346.

McWilliams compartió la historia de su reembolso como invitada en mi programa de radio “Black Houses Matter”, que se transmite todos los lunes a las 11:30 a.m. por WVON-AM 1690.

Después de proporcionar su información de contacto, es posible que se le pida presentar comprobantes de pago. Requerimos esta documentación para asegurarnos de que los reembolsos se emitan únicamente a quienes realizaron el pago en exceso.

Si pagó en efectivo, una copia de su recibo sirve como comprobante.

Si pagó con cheque personal o comercial, se necesita una copia del frente del cheque cancelado con el que se pagaron los impuestos, o una copia del estado de cuenta bancario mensual donde aparezca el número del cheque y el monto del pago correspondiente.

Si pagó en línea a través de cookcountytreasurer.com, deberá presentar una copia de su estado de cuenta bancario que muestre la transferencia de fondos a la Tesorería o una copia del estado de cuenta de su tarjeta de crédito donde figure el pago.

Si una compañía hipotecaria pagó los impuestos, puede presentar una copia del Formulario 1098 del Servicio de Impuestos Internos (IRS) que indique que los impuestos fueron pagados para el año fiscal correspondiente.

En el caso de McWilliams, tuvo que presentar prueba de que realizó el pago del impuesto a la propiedad en 2004, cuando se produjo el mayor pago en exceso.

“No tenía idea de que iba a hablar con las personas correctas y lograr lo que necesitaba. Pero lo logré, y les agradezco muchísimo por eso”, dijo McWilliams.
