Treasurer Maria Pappas has asked the Cook County Board of Commissioners to waive all penalties for up to 60 days for bills due next March and August, Crain's Chicago Business reports.
"I commend the president and the board for passing the first waiver ordinance, which gave property owners some assistance when they needed it," Pappas writes in a letter to the board and President Toni Preckwinkle. "But they need more today. . . . A pandemic is wreaking economic havoc like nothing we've seen before. . . .We acted before and must act again."
