Treasurer Pappas has launched a program to reduce the number of homes in predominantly African American areas on the Tax Sale List called Black Houses Matter," WMAQ/Channel 5 reports during the 5 o'clock news.

Pappas started with a list of about 58,187 properties with delinquent Cook County property taxes, which she has reduced to 38,266.

"She is on a mission to clear that list for good," reporter Christian Farr says.
